SPACE HEATING: SANS 10400 Part V, ALTERNATIVES AND GAS INSTALLATIONS – JOOST HOGEWONING

Objectives:

The aim of this CPD event is to equip designers with a wider knowledge of space heating than just Part V.  The CPD will give a better understanding of the different types of space heating and their applications, and will also address the basic requirements and the latest design regulations for gas appliances as per SANS 10087-1.

Content

1. Historical snippets of space heating
2. Working through SANS 10400 Part V (Heating by combustible materials) including figures and explanations.
3. Alternative permanent heating systems: biofuel, underfloor heating (electric, hydronic, etc.), wall panel heating (electric, oil, water), ceiling and bathroom heating.
4. Gas fireplaces and other appliances (stoves, etc.) Gas installations SANS 10087-1: all the basics for design purposes.

Format:

This CPD is presented in a correspondence format. The participant will receive the presentation and accompanying notes in a PDF format by e-mail on the starting date. The course must be completed within 14 days. This will enable the participants to work at their own pace, and to move between slides and notes to and fro for better understanding. No need to be at a computer at any specific time, and will use less than 50Mb data. Questions may be submitted by e-mail. A short questionnaire has to be completed at the end to ascertain that the participant has worked through the material and has understood it. When studied properly, this CPD is the equivalent of a half day event.
